Japan Commercial Environmental Design Association (JCD) Review

Despite the Internet’s domination of society, “books” are experiencing a rapid ascent not only in Japan but also in Korea and Taiwan. Many new fascinating spaces with “books” have emerged recently. BOOK AND BED TOKYO (an economy hotel) is one such audacious location. Rather than a capsule hotel, it employs the style of a youth hostel, which makes it a little less attractive as an overnight lodgment. Yet, a hotel is potentially a communal locality. It is a place that expresses a lifestyle marked by encounters with others. In perhaps a slightly exaggerated fashion, BOOK AND BED TOKYO has succeeded in accomplishing this concept through “books.” Bookshelves and shelves that serve as beds are united. One is able to experience the adventurous drama of staying overnight in a library.
