About Us

As an inventory of "cool" spatial design from all over Japan, the website conveys the current state of Japanese interior design, which is full of vibrant ideas and materials, to architects, interior designers, developers, and many other spatial design professionals of the world.

Project of Inbound Tourism Promotion through Spatial Design
‘Space Design Concierge’

This website was launched by the Tokyo Design Center and created by the Japan Design Consultants Association, in collaboration with four national interior design organizations. To introduce trendy spatial design in commercial environments, the Japanese Commercial Environmental Design Association (dining and wining facilities, shops, etc.), Japan Federation of Interior Planners’ Association (hotels, offices, etc.), Japan Tourism Facilities Association (hotels), and Japan International Association of Lighting Designers (lighting) offer their professional insights in selecting and aptly reviewing well designed spaces.
This project presents to the world, commercial environmental designs of urban facilities, namely, hotels, restaurants, and shops, as well as urban townscapes such as night views. By doing so, we aim to add a new dimension of Cool Japan of “Spatial Design” to Cool Japan of “subculture” or “traditional culture”, conveying a multilayered image of Japanese culture. Unlike Content Industry that can provide realistic images to their audience or reader without visiting the original country (i.e., Japan), spatial design needs one to touch and experience the space itself. We hope that this website will serve to increase the incentive for overseas professionals (architects, interior designers and development producers) to visit Japan, by conveying ideas and images of Japanese spatial design and preparing opportunities for mutual businesses.
